Movement in the Algerian diplomatic corps abroad
Algiers- President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika has approved the list of new Algerian ambassadors and consuls who will represent Algeria abroad after the national committee of the diplomatic corps has approved it, during its meeting in the beginning of the current week at the Ministry Foreign Affairs.
- According to sources close to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the movement in the Algerian diplomatic corps concerns the appointment of new ambassadors in several European, Arab and African capitals.
The movement also involves appointing new consuls general in various French cities and end of mission for others. The current Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abdelmadjid Bouguerra has meanwhile been appointed as Ambassador of Algeria in Germany. While Halim Atallah, Ambassador of Algeria in Belgium and the European Union, will be replaced by the Advisor to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ben Amar Djamaa who served as ambassador in Japan and previously as General Secretary of the Ministry.
The movement also ended the mission of Ambassador of Algeria in Mali, Abdelkrim Gherib, dean of ambassadors who will be replaced by Mr. Ayadi, a senior at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and whose mission will be essentially based on security, connected to Algeria's desire to implement the initiative of tightening the noose around terrorist groups in the African Sahel region including Mali.
The Head of Department of Arab Affairs, Mr. Abdelhamid Bouzaher was appointed ambassador of Algeria in Libya to replace the current ambassador. Mr Bouzaher previously held various positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He was also ambassador of Algeria in the United Arab Emirates.
Furthermore, it ended the mission of Ambassador of Algeria in Mauritania, Gaid Chakib and appointed a new ambassador in Tehran, namely Mr. Mimouni Sofiane replacing Mr Grine. Mr. Hamadi Mouloud was appointed ambassador of Algeria in Turkey and Mr Chikhi ambassador in Vietnam.
Former Communication Minister Tijani Salaouandji returned back to diplomacy by occupying the position of ambassador Algeria in Greece and this after a rest period since summer 2005, when his mission as ambassador of Algeria Mexico had been ended. Mr Lounès Mekermane, adviser at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was appointed Ambassador of Algeria in the Republic of Hungary, despite the application for this position by the current Ambassador of Algeria in South Africa, Mr Ben Cheikh for family reasons. Mr Mehrez Fateh was appointed ambassador of Algeria in Sweden while Nadjib Senoussi was appointed ambassador of Algeria in Bahrain. In Yemen, it was decided the appointment of Ambassador Abdelwahab Bouzaher.
The movement in the diplomatic corps has also impacted on the termination of the functions of the deputy ambassador of Algeria in Morocco Boumediene Guenadi who held positions in the administration consular affairs, in the absence of General Larbi Belkheir who stepped down for health reasons since June 2008.
President Abdelaziz Bouteflika will proceed to the appointment of an ambassador and diplomatic representatives at the Embassy of Algeria in Rabat.
Concerning general consuls, the general consul of the city of Lyon, Abdelkrim Touahria will be replaced by Mr Kassim. Tayeb Khouidmi, General Consul at Nanterre will be replaced by Mr. Medkour, while the consul of Bobigny, Ben Kheira Ben Bouali, will be replaced by Mr. Walid. Mr. Aissa Romani will be replaced as head of the consulate of Algeria in Grenoble by Mr. Boualem Hassan.
This movement in the body of general consulates in various French cities, comes as a complement to the one began last year and which has touched the Consul of Algeria in Saint Etienne, Mohamed Messali, and the consul rachid Hadbi in Vitry Hamid Heraïk in Montpelier and Djaoued Rahal, consul in Nice. The Consul of Algeria in Kef, Tunisia, Belbaki Rashid was replaced in this border region with Algeria by Mr. Hamoumi.
