59 Harraga died before reaching their paradise overseas

Algiers- 857 Harraga (candidates for illegal emigration) arrested in 8 months. One Harraga aged 69 and 43 others adolescents arrested.

• The phenomenon Harga (illegal immigration) has known this year a decline with the registration of 900 candidates against 1,200 during the first nine months of last year.
  
  In this context, the information unit of the General Directorate of Marine Forces has identified not less than 857 Harraga during the period from January to August. Unfortunately, fifty-nine bodies of Harraga have been recovered, mostly on the eastern coastline which registered 23 cases, while 22 bodies were recovered in the western coastline and 14 in the centre.
  
  The month of June, according to coastguards, has peaked in terms of number of operations of Harga. 251 candidates to illegal immigration were arrested, of which 245 were arrested while they were on the boats of death, while the rest were arrested aboard cargo vessels sailing towards the European countries.
  
  During the month of August, it was recorded 190 Harraga, while in April, only one case has been registered due to bad weather.
  
  According to a report from the communication unit of the Marine Forces Command, of which Ennahar holds a copy, the majority of illegal immigrants who attempt the adventure to the other shore of the Mediterranean, use boats. 94 have sailed aboard these boats of death while 4% have preferred commercial vessels in the direction towards Europe.
  
  48% of Harraga choose the eastern coastline as a starting point to Europe. Then the western coastline comes in second place with 45%. The centre of the country has experienced less  candidates for illegal emigration with 7% of Harraga.
  
  
  The Annabis are more likely to Harga, followed by candidates from the highlands (Hauts Plateaux).
  
  
  The department of Annaba ranks first in number of Harraga and this, according to statistics of maritime services on the basis of the confessions of these latters during interrogations. 241 candidates were registered in Annaba, Oran followed with 196, 15 Harraga from Arzew and 85 from Skikda.
  
  The phenomenon of Harraga affects 22 departments including the departments of the interior such as Tiaret, Ghelizane, Khenchla, Ain M'lila, Batna, Mila, Constantine, Bordj Bouarreridj, Mascara, Oum El Bouaghi, in addition to the littoral departments as Tlemcen, Oran, Mostaganem, Chlef, Algiers, Skikda, Jijel, Bejaia and Annaba.
