Eight border guards in military detention in Tlemcen
Algiers- The Military Court of the Second Military Region in Oran ordered late last week the detention in a military prison for eight elements of border guards of "Bab el Assa" in the department of Tlemcen.
- Among those arrested, there is an officer and NCO accused of corruption, abuse of power and non respect of instructions.
According to reliable sources of Ennahar, these were arrested following an investigation by the services of the gendarmerie after police had formerly arrested two gendarmes in possession of money affected as bribes in exchange for facilities provided for smugglers. The investigation resulted in the arrest of eight people involved in this case, among them an officer, NCO and five agents of the battery "Lalla Aicha" which belongs to the group of border guards of "Bab El Assa" on the Algerian-Moroccan border.
The Head of the group 17 of border guards «Bab El Assa» had planned a series of surprising visits to the Border Guard brigades in order to inspect the security plan since he has been appointed by the command of the gendarmerie last July.
The head of the group was accompanied by a regional inspection commission from the gendarmerie of Oran during the surprise visit to the brigade "Lalla Aicha", where two policemen were caught in possession of money estimated at 7 million centimes. After investigation, they found out that these sums of money represented bribes paid by drug traffickers in the region. A quantity of hashish was seized on one of the two policemen.
A few days later, another policeman in the same brigade was arrested during a surprise inspection. The persons involved in this case have been arrested for corruption, abuse of power and non respect of instructions.
The command of group 17 of border guards of Bab El Assa started a campaign of prevention and fight against trafficking in all its forms, instructions issued by General Amar Tounsi, head of the institution of border guards during the last visit to the Border guards in the west, under the direction of General Ahmed Boustila, commander of the gendarmerie who viewed the fight against smuggling a priority and emphasized on discipline and professional ethics to promote the image the military institution.
