Nearly 1,200,000 students join universities

Algiersd- Over one million students have joined universities nationwide on sunday for the new academic year 2009-2010.

• A total of 1,164,137 students, including 134,981 new registered students (57.7 % girls), will be supervised by about 35,000 teachers, among which 7000 highly qualified teachers, with an average of one teacher for 30 students.

• The different universities and institutes have a seating capacity of 1,200,000 seats, in addition to 510,000 beds in the student halls of residence. The 2009-2010 academic year will witness the continuation of the reforms with a view to improving the quality of university training and teaching, through different measures.
