ALGIERS - Access to broadband Internet (ADSL) is expected to count 1.2 million subscribers in Algeria in late 2009, said Sunday the Algerian Minister of Post and Information Technology and Communication (ICT ) Hamid Bessalah.

  •     "This year we expect to have at least 700,000 new ADSL access and we would finish the year with at least 1.2 million of access," said Bessalah on the public radio channel III.

The minister however said that Algeria was still "far from its goals and ambitions" for the ICT, stressing that "one of the major axes of these objectives is the implementation of broadband infrastructure.

"We need to get to 6 million of access, and thus it is important to upgrade the infrastructure," he said.

Algeria is currently around 500,000 ADSL access to 4 million Internet users, according to official figures.
The country has nearly 35 million inhabitants.

If you want more ADSL access, you should revise the price which is not suitable for all the Algerians and most of the people who surf the internet are teachers or students. So, how can they get such amount of money and they have the last salaries in the country? By the way,we knew that Japan has generalized 2 GB all over the country with a symbolic price and we still use 256 MB and we seem to be proud of that .So if you want really to encourage people to use the internet -and my speech is to the minister of course-you should revise the price and the speed. Thanks for your patience.
