The Egyptian authorities have declared a state of emergency Monday night at Cairo international airport after the suspected presence of a bomb in an Algerian aircraft.

  • According to Egyptian sources, the Egyptian police and state security services have completed the encirclement of the perimeter and closing of all exits of the airport after receiving a phone call informing them of the presence of a bomb in an Algerian plane. The 4038 flight with 127 passengers including 116 Egyptians had been evacuated and baggage scrutinized. Explosives experts were dispatched to the scene and police dogs were used in an operation that lasted over two hours. No bomb was found.

Bouabdallah to Ennahar "is a play composed by Egypt Air"

The CEO of Air Algeria, Mr. Wahid Bouabdallah said that the Algerian airliner which landed at Cairo airport has been submitted to a thorough search on the part of Egypt Air to find the pseudo bomb. 253 passengers, Algerians and Egyptians, were forced off the plane; they were searched as well as their baggage, while a team searched the plane.

According to Bouabdallah, contacted yesterday by Ennahar, it was a play whose roles were played by Egypt Air staff. It is unfounded and it is meant to sully the image of Algeria. The Egyptian company has conducted a deep search of the aircraft and the passengers after receiving anonymous phone call from Algeria, claiming that a bomb would be on the plane from the airport Houari Boumediene to the Cairo Airport, the flight n° 4038. The aircraft, according Bouabdallah was retained for some time and all passengers have been searched before they were allowed to return back.
