Rise in the price of imports in Algeria in 2008
The Algerian import products invoice, cereals, milk and medicines has increased by almost 75% over a year, from 4.49 billion in 2007 to 7.82 billion in 2008, said Sunday the National Center for Informatics and Statistics Customs (CNIS).
- This increase is mainly due to the rise in raw material prices, especially grain on international markets in 2008, according to the same source.
The cereals invoice, meal and flour has doubled, from 1.98 billion USD in 2007 to 3.98 billion USD in 2008.

For milk and milk products, the invoice amounted to 1.29 billion dollars against 1.06 billion in 2007, an increase of 21.72%.
Milk and bread are two products of basic food in Algeria.
Imports of drugs totaled $ 1.85 billion in 2008 against 1.44 billion in 2007, an increase of 27.86%.
Algeria, which consumes 3.5 billion liters of milk per year, only produced 2.2 billion, of which only 250 million are collected and processed by its industries, according to official figures.
Total imports from Algeria increased by 41.71% in 2008 rising to 39.16 billion dollars against 27.63 billion dollars in 2007, according to the CNIS.
