Hepatitis B & C: over 1,200 patients treated in 2009 in Algeria

ALGIERS- More than 1,200 persons affected with hepatitis B and C have been treated in 2009, while nearly 1,000 patients are expected to be during 2010, the national association "SOS hepatitis" indicated Tuesday, referring to health ministry figures.

  • According to the association president Abdelhamid Bouallag, hepatitis B would affect "2.5%" of the population while hepatitis C would hit "2.7%" of it.

  • He assessed, on the margin of a conference on this illness, that these figures "do not reflect the actual situation," regretting the "absence of a national true strategy or a national clear plan for the fight of hepatitis diseases.
