Djamal Ould Abbas: «Mecili Case is a thorn in the Franco-Algerian relations»
...The conviction of the Algerian diplomat Mohammed Ziane Hasseni is a small thorn in the Franco-Algerian relations,... said Sunday in Algiers the Minister of National Solidarity Djamal Ould Abbas.
- Mr. Ould Abbas made the statement to the press as he received the French Socialist deputy Jean-Noël Guérini in an official visit to Algeria.
"This is a small thorn in the Franco-Algerian relations. This is a problem that starts to interfere with the relations between our two countries," said Mr. Abbas, who added that the DNA test was negative.
The diplomat had agreed to submit to DNA testing to prove his innocence.
- Under an international arrest warrant issued in December 2007 by France, Mr. Hasseni was arrested on August 14 at the airport of Marseille (south-east France) and then charged with "complicity to murder" in the connection with the murder of Ali Mecili, 47, exiled in France in 1965 and shot dead on 7 April 1987 in Paris.
Placed under judicial control, Mr. Hasseni, Head of Protocol at the Foreign Ministry of Algeria, proclaims his innocence and claims to be victim of homonymy.
