H1N1 influenza: too early to conclude that the peak is past

GENEVA-The Emergency Committee of the World Health Organization (WHO), which met on Tuesday, said it was "too early" to conclude that the "peak" of the pandemic influenza H1N1 was passed Worldwide, said spokesman for the WHO.

  •    "The committee felt it was too early to conclude that all parts of the world had a peak transmission of the H1N1 flu pandemic and that we need more time and information," according to an email from the spokesman, Gregory Hartl.
       The opinion of 15 experts is advisory, the final decision rests with the General Director of WHO Margaret Chan.
       WHO estimated for several weeks that the pandemic has caused nearly 16,000 deaths since the outbreak of the virus in the Americas nearly a year ago, was declining.
