Assassination of Ali tounsi: a « premeditated murder »

ALGIERS - The murderer of the chief of the Algerian police, Colonel Ali Tounsi killed February 25 in his office in Algiers, was charged with "premeditated murder", said Thursday the Algerian Minister of Justice Tayeb Belaiz.

  •    Colonel Choueib Oultache, author of the murder of the head of the General Directorate for National Security (DGSN), is "charged with premeditated murder" and was placed "in custody", said Belaiz, In a statement to reporters on the sidelines of a meeting of the Council of the Nation (Senate), according to APS.
       The Minister added that "the case is in the hands of justice" and that "the judicial inquiry was opened.
       Mr. Oultache, who was chief of the air division of the police, "is currently in custody" and the case is the responsibility of the judge who "probably will appoint an expert," he said.
       Ali Tounsi was killed on February 25 by Mr. Oultache who then turned his weapon against himself during a meeting at the Genral Directorate of National Security in Algiers, announced the Ministry of the Interior shortly after the murder.
       According to the ministry, the death of Tounsi "occurred during a working session during which an official of the police, apparently seized by a fit of madness, opened fire on the police chief with his service weapon".
       Zerhouni said on March 2 that the assassination of police chief was a "crime without witnesses."
