Algeria: aftershocks of magnitude 5, panic but no damage

ALGIERS - A replica of magnitude 5 was recorded Sunday morning in M'sila (250 km southeast of Algiers) two days after an earthquake on Friday which caused two deaths in this region but caused no victims or damage, state radio said.

  • According to the Centre for Research in Astronomy, Astrophysics and Geophysics (CRAAG), the epicenter of this earthquake, felt at 7:52 am (6:52 GMT), was located 15 km northwest of Beni Ilmen near M'sila .
  •    The radio said the replica has not caused any damage, but caused a movement of fear and panic within the population.
  •    Two people were killed and 43 injured after an earthquake measuring 5.2 struck the area of Melouza Friday near M'sila, according to official figures.
