A police officer sentenced to 5 years in prison for torture

Tamanrasset- The Criminal Court of Tamanrasset yesterday sentenced a police officer to five years in prison and a fine of 100,000 dinars for torture during interrogation of arrested.

  • The facts of this case date back to 2008, when the police officer "H. Mahfoud" arrested a gang that has attacked the company Naftal using a firearm.
    At the security headquarters in Tamanrasset, the officer leading the interrogation tortured them using methods that justice has refused to disclose.
    The Attorney General said only that he had examined a record of torture, presented by one of the victims joined to a complaint addressed to the chief of security of the wilaya.
    At the trial of the officer at the court of Tamanrasset, which many people attended, the Attorney General made a very strong intervention, stating the need to protect the dignity of the citizen, even if he is a criminal. The law, has he said, is above all.
