Human Rights, Algeria on the good way

Algeria in ...The good direction... for the human rights (commission)

  • Algeria is 'in the good direction' with regard to the respect of the human rights, declared Tuesday the president of the consultative national Commission of promotion and protection of the human rights (CNCPPDH), Me Farouk Ksentini, to the Algerian agency  APS. ‘The situation of the human rights in Algeria doesn't stop improving. I don't say that things go well in this domain, but I rather say that things go better', said Me. Ksentini on the occasion of the sixtieth birthday of the universal Declaration of the human rights.
  • Therefore the situation improves better and better because there is a political will, as there is a demand on behalf of the Algerian people. I think that in our country, we are in the good direction about the human rights, added the president of this official institution. 'The Charter for the peace and the national reconciliation is a big realization, concerning the human rights because (...) the most elementary right of the citizen is the right to the civil peace, he added. This charter, adopted by referendum in 2005, granted the amnesty to the Moslem armed groups under some conditions. According to Me. Ksentini, his commission took care 'notably of the question of the lost people'. Several NGO estimate regularly that the whole light has not been made about lost people because of the police forces since the beginning of 1990.

  • Therefore, the CNCPPDH will continue 'to ask for the abolition of the capital punishment that is, in my opinion, old, and would rather be replaced by other pains of substitution', concluded Me. Ksentini while announcing the organization of an 'international seminary on this topic, January 12 and 13 next in Algiers'. Algeria observes a moratorium on the capital punishment since 1993.
