Bilal El-Djazaïri, Abu Zeid’s right arm, eliminated in Mali
Mauritanian government has officially announced the death of one of the most important activists of the Salafist Group for Preaching and combat (GSPC, now AQIM), established in Mauritania, known as "Bilal al-Djazaïri (Bilal Algeria).
- According to Mauritanian television, the Mauritanian security authorities have identified the body of the terrorist Bilal among the terrorists eliminated following the military operation conducted by the Franco-Mauritanian forces in which seven French soldiers were also killed.
- Bilal El-Djazaïri was one of the pillars of the organization in the Sahel, the right arm of Hamadou Abada, alias « Abdelhamid Abou Zeid » and an expert on desert trails and surrounding areas.
- The Mauritanian authorities added that the terrorist eliminated was among the elements that took part several years ago, in the attack against the Mauritanian army in the areas of "Lemghatti" and "Tourine" that had claimed the death of 30 Mauritanian soldiers.
- Moreover, according to Spanish sources, the group of Mokhtar Belmokhtar, alias Khaled Abul Abbas, nicknamed « Laouar », responsible for the kidnapping of Spanish nationals had increased the detention conditions of the two Spanish hostages in Mauritania in November last year.
