In Iraq, Ramadan begins on Wednesday for the Sunnis and the Shias will begin fasting on Thursday, said the authorities of the two religious faiths. "The Sunni Waqf Higher Committee met Tuesday in Um al-Qura mosque in Baghdad and has fixed tomorrow (Wednesday) the first day of Ramadan," said its chairman Abdul Ghafoor Al-Samarrai, in a statement broadcast public television al-Iraqiya.
