Melun (France), October 11, 2010 - The Algerian rai star Cheb Mami, 43, convicted in France July 3, 2009 to 5 years in prison for an attempted forced abortion of his ex-girlfriend, will know Tuesday if his application parole is granted.

  •    The court enforcement of sentences of Melun, a town in the Paris area where he has been incarcerated since July 3, 2009 after being sentenced to five years in prison, had considered this request on September 21 and made his decision under advisement.
  •    He was particularly criticized of "violence" with the aggravating circumstances in 2005 against Camille, a news photographer of 43, with whom he maintained a relationship.
  •     In August 2005, she claimed to have been brought by force into a villa in Algiers after she announced her pregnancy to the singer who was opposed. She said she have been drugged and kidnapped, saying that two women and one man tried to make her a curettage. She finally gave birth to a girl now aged four.
  •    The singer, after two years on the run in Algeria, had decided to appear before the court, while his career seemed stalled since the beginning of the case.
  •    During the hearing in 2009, Cheb Mami, had apologized to Camilla. "I regret everything that happened. I ask forgiveness, I am sorry," he said, inviting his ex-impresario, also involved in the case, to do the same.
  •    If he had accepted responsibility, however, the singer said he had been "trapped" by his entourage.
