LISBON- Algeria and Portugal have decided to strengthen their cooperation in the field of information technology, announced Tuesday the Portuguese Prime Minister Jose Socrates at the third Luso-Algerian summit.

  •    "There is a convergence of views on the development of information technology," Mr Socrates said in a statement to the press with his Algerian counterpart Ahmed Ouyahia.
  •    Tuesday, the two countries signed several memorandums of understanding including a memorandum aimed at increasing cooperation in the field of information technology and the digital economy, particularly for projects in the field of education, health and mobility.
  •    This collaboration should enable to open the way "for the introduction of computers in schools," said Ouyahia.
  •    Mr Socrates said that relations with "the countries of northern Africa, especially Algeria, are a priority" for the foreign policy of Portugal.
