Alain Juppe in Algiers, for a special partnership
ALGIERS - The visit of French foreign minister Alain Juppe in Algiers this week responds to a "common desire to build a special partnership," said Monday the spokesman of the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Amar Belani.
- The last French Foreign Minister who visited Algeria was Bernard Kouchner in May 2008.
Mr. Juppe is expected to a "working visit" on the invitation of his Algerian counterpart Mourad Medelci.
The visit "is part of enhanced political dialogue between the two countries and contributes to their common will to build a special partnership that is commensurate with the multifaceted links between them in terms of history, Neighborhood and density of human relationships," said Dr. Belani, quoted by APS.
Besides bilateral issues, the two men will discuss the regional situation, the Middle East and relations with the European Union, the source said.
"The numerous exchanges of visits between the two countries and the establishment of new mechanisms for political consultation and facilitation of investments have helped strengthen and diversify bilateral cooperation and expand it to all areas of common interest", Mr. Belani added.
"Economically, the revival of investment and partnership on a new basis has helped save a significant advance through the shared desire of both countries to give their relationship an exemplary nature-based search of sustainable mutual interests, "according to the statement that refers to the mission of Jean-Pierre Raffarin, Special Envoy of President Nicolas Sarkozy to take forward economic cooperation.
The mission of Mr. Raffarin, who visited Algeria three times, ended with the holding of a partnership forum at the end of May which was described as a "success" by both parties.
