Qaddafi's relatives in Algeria "under the responsibility of the Algerians"

  •    The Gaddafi family members present in Algeria are "under the responsibility of the Algerians," said Ouyahia to the press on the sidelines of the opening of the autumn session of the Council of the Nation (Senate).

"The Libyans themselves have said and asked us to consider them as Algerians," said the prime minister who was quoted by news agency APS.

Their reception by Algeria "is a humanitarian case as part of the treatment by Algeria for other humanitarian cases," he said.

"Algeria has a history, traditions and a civilization and Libya, brother country, a people with an ancient history, a neighbouring people with whom we share a glorious past and a bright future," said Ouyahia.

Algeria has received 29 August Muammar Gaddafi's three children - Aisha, who gave birth to a baby girl on Algerian soil, Mohammed and Hannibal - along with Safia, the second wife of the deposed leader.

The National Transitional Council (CNT), political arm of the Libyan rebellion, considered the day after "very unwise" the behaviour of Algeria, acting, according to him, against "the interests of the Libyan people" by hosting Gaddafi’s children.

Ouyahia said that "leaders of other countries have already been met without creating the hype."

Ouyahia said that members of the family of the deceased Iraqi president Saddam Hussein were welcomed by other countries without such an outcry as did Saudi Arabia with Tunisian President Ben Ali and his family since January 14, which did not cause "the storm".

Ouyahia, has also estimated that the "fast" return of security and stability in Libya will promote a "close" restoration between the two countries.

Algeria and Libya "are linked by brotherhood and good neighbourliness relations," he added.
