Arrest in France of an Algerian suspected of murder
An Algerian aged 32, suspected of having tortured and killed a retired couple in the suburbs of Paris in early September, was arrested Friday night at Paris Orly airport and taken into custody, said Saturday judicial source.
- The man was arrested at his off the plane from Algeria by the investigators of the judicial police of Versailles before being placed in custody in their premises, the source said. They have managed to find him because he repeatedly used the victims’ credit card on September 2, days of the discovery of the bodies of the old pensioners in their modest pavilion Maurepas, near Trappes.
- The police, working with an agent in Algeria, knew that the suspect would return to France on September 16. He had taken off from Paris on Sept. 2 after buying cash return ticket, the judicial source said.
- On the evening of September 2, rescue teams had intervened at the couple's home, at the request of the family concerned. The two pensioners were found tied with wire in their house. The autopsy revealed that the couple was tortured and bitten several times with a knife, presumably to reveal his bank code, before being slaughtered.
