On the banners they have written ...Villar Mir the colonizer but not the investor.... The workers of the company ...Fertial... Annaba, one of the largest subsidiaries of the group Algerian ...Asmidal..., specialized in the manufacture of fertilizers and phosphate fertilizers, have joined together yesterday for the third consecutive day to protest against the plan to dismiss workers that the branch has started to reach, according to the union, 117 workers.

  • They have over ten years of experience and activity within the group but are still under contracts. The company’s managers had already dismissed last year 450 workers for reasons, according to the direction, associated with the new system of production that does not require traditional labour but high skills (engineers and technicians).

Meanwhile, the union in ‘Fertial’ think they wanted to get rid of workers after Spanish businessman ‘Villar Mir’ group have made captured more than 60% of the capital of complex Asmidal, ignoring the commitments previously made when signing a partnership agreement that the Spaniards were committed to preserving the jobs and bring investment to develop the production and recruitment of other workers.
  •
  • These promises were not kept, and the Spaniards exploited the complex and its equipment and production capacity of phosphate and nitrogen fertilizers and their export to foreign countries at prices over 300 dollars per tonne, which has produced billions of dollars in profits for ‘Villar Mir group’ without making any investment.

When the CEO of the Spanish company wanted to enter the complex, the workers decided to stop him but the union representatives and security officers intervened to convince them to use other means to express themselves.

After a while, the workers' representatives have received the negative response from the Spanish CEO. The latter decided to keep about 40 of the most skilled workers, including technicians and engineers, the others were dismissed. This has raised the anger of those who were mostly fathers. They tried to close the complex and asked the intervention of the president to save their jobs, threatening to use all possible means to defend their rights.
