According to the Director of the Center for African Studies and Research on Terrorism (ACSRT), Boubekeur Diara, the complicity of groups of drug traffickers,

  • criminals and the terrorist organization has made the danger of the latter becomes greater . He claims that terrorist groups are linked to gangs of drug arms traffickers and. These, he said, are creating bridges between themselves. The kidnappings that took place in the region were made in cooperation between terrorist groups and criminal gangs, the first know the region well and the second provide their material support.

Diara called, yesterday, at the opening of the conference on international terrorism and organized crime, held at the center for African Studies and Research on Terrorism in Algiers, the Sahel countries to assist those of North Africa in their war against terrorism, by cutting any relationship between the bands of traffickers and terrorist groups, especially since the region is experiencing a settlement of terrorist groups. He asked them to adopt a policy on several fronts to ensure success. Getting to know the targets of criminal groups, their methods of work based primarily on violence and the laundering of money of smuggling and kidnappings that they invest in projects in a legal manner.

The director of ACSRT said the terrorist organization that seeks to perpetuate the ‘Jihad’ in the Sahel and that ‘El Qaeda’ is trying to have media coverage by attacking the institutions of national security and the headquarters of the International institutions to create an atmosphere of panic and instability and to prevent the arrival of tourists and businessmen in countries like Algeria, taking advantage of the insecurity to transform the region into a conflict zone through violence.

Terrorist groups, said Diara, currently use the Sahel as a place of retreat, where they attempt to create branches to ensure their sustainability, especially after the tightening of the noose around them in North Africa. The members of the terrorist organization are also relying on the kidnapping of tourists in order to extract ransom money from their governments. The lack of legal framework and lack of defense means in the Sahel countries aggravates the situation and increases the political conflicts that have contributed to the operations of illegal weapons.
