- This conference, organized by the Ministry of Justice, also gathered Algerian and foreign experts, including a representative of the United Nations (UN) and another of the European Union (EU). The conference was primarily based on the socio-economic aspects of corruption and the means to set up and efforts to combat it.
- If Algeria was pinned by Transparency International, which puts it at 112th place out of 183 countries, it is not due to lack of performance of the judiciary or services in charge of the fight against corruption, but it is rather due to a suspicion of corruption, says the director of criminal cases to the Department of Justice, Mr. Mokhtar Lakhdari.
- The day before the conference, the President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika signed a Decree on the organization and operating procedures of the Central Anti-Corruption office (OCRC), installed last year and charged with conducting research and investigations by the prosecution assisted by officers of the judicial police.
