Magnitude 6.3 earthquake shakes Peru
An earthquake of 6.3 magnitude has struck on the coast of Peru early,the U.S. Geological Survey said, Although there were no reported injuries or damage ; No tsunami warning issued
- The quake occurred at 11 minutes after midnight (local time 1 a.m. ET) and was centered about 9 miles from the of the city of Ica andabout 170 miles south-southeast of Lima.
- the quake shook badly buildings in coastal Lima,Peru's capital., local radio said residents near the epicenter were alarmed and when they felt the quake they ran outside their homes.
- "It was similar to what happened to us in 2007," Ica resident Blanca Cabanilla told the local radio.
- The city of Ica was damaged by a major 8.0 quake killed more than 500 people in 2007 and also suffered damage in a quake last October.
