Case of Algerian prisoners in Libya
Families of Algerian prisoners in Libyan prisons have decided to protest in Algiers after the presidential election.
- The authorities of both countries are implementing the resolutions of the agreement signed between the two countries for the release of prisoners.
In this context, the representative of Algerian prisoners in Libya said that 59 families of prisoners have decided to travel to Algiers in the coming days to make a sit-in outside the embassy of Libya and the presidency to press on for the regularization of the situation of 78 prisoners, noting that a complete file on the situation of prisoners has already been prepared.
The representative of Algerian prisoners in Libya said that the Algerian consul in Tripoli, Mr 'Laârbaoui has visited the prisoners in their cells, but what was strange was that during his visit to the prisoners (women), the latter recommended them not to speak to journalists and to stop complaining to them.
Furthermore, according to the representative of Algerian prisoners in Libya, Mr Abdelkader Kassmi, health status of Algerians with AIDS is worsening, especially after that eight others have contracted HIV, while the Libyan prison administration refused all medical tests or drugs to patients.
As a reminder, four Algerian prisoners had stitched their mouths to protest against the non-application of the Algerian and Libyan agreements for their release.
The representative of Algerian prisoners in Libya has insisted on the necessity of the implementation of agreements concluded between the Algerian and Libyan governments which concern more than 80 prisoners. Only 12 prisoners were released, bringing the number of prisoners released up till now to 25.
