Yacine Bezzaz: If we continue like this, we will not go to South Africa

The striker of the French club Strasbourg and the National team, Yacine Bezzaz, said in a telephone conversation with Ennahar, that going to the World Cup will be very difficult if not impossible if the national team continues to show the same face he showed against the selection of Rwanda.

  • Yacine, in this interview, refuses to follow the path of the majority of Algerians who criticize the national coach Rabah Saadane, despite his surprise at not being on the list of 18 for this meeting. But he rather focused on the match against Egypt.

In a few steps back, will your share the opinion of the majority of Algerians who say that the result against Rwanda was negative?

I think the key challenge, before going to Kigali to meet with the selection of Rwanda, was to avoid defeat and return with a positive result. Thing that has been done in Kigali, but by returning to the match, I would agree with all Algerians we missed a victory that was within the reach of our hands, especially since all conditions were met, that of arbitration, the weather and the ground which was acceptable. Furthermore, we mostly dominated the first period in which we had missed several opportunities to score. Luck was not on our side, and I would not say that the result was negative.

The national coach was the subject of much criticism because of his choice, what do you think?

What would you like me to say? The national coach is the only one who can make the choice and the need he sees for this match. We must all respect these decisions because he is primarily responsible. In addition, we are in a sensitive period after the beginning of such qualifications and such observations are not in the interest of the national team. Everyone must show solidarity with the team and with the national coach in hopes of realizing the dream that is the qualification for the World Cup.

Among the criticisms that had been to Saâdane was to make Saïfi play despite unavailability and an injury, while you were excluded from the list despite your disposal.

Like I said before, the choice of the national coach is indisputable even if those choices are not for me personally like the match against Rwanda, but the interest of the national team remains above everything else.

But quite frankly, do you believe that this choice was at least logical?

(Bezzaz laughs) you want me to criticize the coach .... Look! Things do not work like that. Any player who does not play or is excluded from the list of 18 will criticize the choice of the coach, I think it is thinking about one’s own interests against the interests of the national team. Nevertheless, I would like to clarify a very important point.

    Please do!

I make no secret when I say that I was very surprised not to see my name on the list of 18 for the match against Rwanda and for several reasons, first I was in super form and ready for the meeting, this in one hand, and because I played all the matches whether friendlier or officials of the national team before the match against Rwanda.

Given our performance against Rwanda, do you think we have a chance to go to the World cup?

Our chances are equal with the other selections, including Rwanda. It is difficult to predict who will go to the World cup. Zambia scrambled all the calculations of the entire world, including specialists who gave the opportunities to either our national team or Egypt. I think the club who prepares well and concentrates better will go to the World cup.

But you have not answered my question. Do you think we have the ability to go to South Africa in 2010?

To be honest with all Algerians, we need to win all three points against Egypt, then to improve our game and released with a better face than that we have shown against Rwanda. If things continue this way, we have a lot of difficulties in achieving this goal. But anyway, I am optimistic and I think we can get better especially with the efforts of the technical staff and the willingness we have to please the Algerian people.
