Letter from a terrorist
In a letter to his mother, an element of the terrorist organization ...El Qaeda in Islamic Maghreb,... recounts the appalling conditions in which he lives within the terrorist groups in their stronghold, which live their last days because of the lack of supplies. The sick and wounded are isolated and abused.
- The letter of which ‘Ennahar’ detains a copies, describes the dramatic living conditions of the elements of the organization. This latter says he was severely wounded in an ambush by elements of the Army which disabled him since nine years.
- The author of the letter, nicknamed Abou Abdallah, complains of ill treatment, since his injury, by the elements of the group that have completely isolated him. “I suffered so much of the group that totally neglected me and isolated me in a corner for many years,” he says. Even his former comrades, they have abandoned him to his fate. This has demoralized him. He says “My friends mistreat me”, I can no longer support even the existence. I eat and I drink and that's all.”
In his letter, the terrorist talks about his health, stating that his condition was deplorable “My health is deteriorating (Mataâjabch), the disease is growing and we are short of medicines.”
Moreover, he appealed to his family, especially his mother and his older brother to intermediate with security authorities in order to help him benefit from the law of national reconciliation. “I would like to tell you that the echoes of national reconciliation have reached me. I know that my older brother would like me to surrender, and that is something that I think about at this time.”
He says he tried to leave the armed activities and return home. “The current state requires your assistance so that I can find a solution to my situation. I decided to surrender but I'm afraid of the organization”.
Abou Abdallah expressed his fear of being discovered. “I'm afraid of reprisals from elements of the organization.” This latter hoped to be released by the organization because of his disability. “I hoped they tell me that I was useless, but nobody dared to do.”
Abou Abdullah concluded his letter by asking everyone who can help to free him from this catastrophic situation in which he has lived for 09 years.
