Hisham Talaat will be retried for the Murder of a Lebanese singer
CAIRO - The Egyptian Supreme Court Thursday ordered a new trial on the Egyptian real estate tycoon Hisham Talaat Mustafa who had been condemned to death for ordering the murder of Lebanese singer in Dubai.
- The case mix of murder, power, show business and sex, is widely followed in Lebanon and captivates Egypt, a country where powerful businessmen rarely face justice.
The Court said it had "accepted the appeal in cassation of Hisham Talaat and ordered a new trial," according to an AFP correspondent on the spot.
In May 2009, Mr. Talaat Moustafa, who was a pillar of the National Democratic Party (NDP, in power), had been sentenced to death by hanging for having paid a retired Egyptian police officer, Mohsen al-Sukkar, two million dollars to kill Suzanne Tamim with whom he had had an affair.
Mr. Sukkar, who had been sentenced to death, will be retried, too.
