SOFIA - The authorities in Sofia airport Friday seized 107 parrots, probably of contraband, worth a total of more than 100,000 euros, airlifted from Lebanon, said the Bulgarian Customs Agency.
- The parrots, gray of Gabon, an endangered species, cost between 1,000 and 1,800 euros each on the informal market in the European Union, the agency said in a statement.
They were transported in four cages by a Bulgarian of Lebanese origin who did not have the necessary paperwork to transport these animals, including an original CITES certificate for the protection of endangered species, the statement said.
