Tlemcen: an imam attempts suicide by immolation

The imam of El Makassem Mosque, 3 km north of the town of El Hanaya, in the province of Tlemcen, has attempted suicide by immolation after the demolition of his house.
- Once the services of the municipality, accompanied by the national gendarmerie, had carried out the demolition, the Imam H. Said sprayed himself with gasoline and tried to light the fire when police on site managed to stop him before they took him to the police station.
Contacted by Ennahar, the Imam referred to a conflict that opposes him to the President of the APC (the mayor) who ordered the demolition of his house, otherwise, he asked, how is it that, among the forty houses, his house is the only one affected by the demolition.
The imam said to be in possession of documents proving his property and construction. - For our part, we tried to contact the President of the APC but the latter did not answer. His assistant told us that the Assembly had not approved the decision of demolition which should normally occur after deliberation.
