Judo: Algeria and Egypt, African champions

Algeria (women) and Egypt (men) have dominated the 30th edition of the African Judo Championship (30 April-3 May in Mauritius), by winning the continental titles in teams and individual events.

  • The Algerian women's team, an African title holder, has kept its crown by snatching five gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medals. The Algerian female judokas, coached by duo Salima Souakri and Salim Boutebcha, have also won a team event's title after they beat their Tunisian rivals. Their Egyptian and Moroccan counterparts have won 1 bronze medal each. In individual rankings, Tunisians ranked second with two African titles, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals, followed by the Senegalese (an African title and 1 bronze medal)
