Rio to host 2016 Olympics

COPENHAGEN (Denmark)- The Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro will host the summer Olympics in 2016, said International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge on Friday in Copenhagen.

• Rio sealed the deal in the third round with 66 votes against 32 for closest rival, Spanish capital Madrid. Fighting for the final win with Madrid after the surprise early exits of Chicago (1st round) and Tokyo (2nd round), Rio de Janeiro enters history by becoming the first South American city to host the Olympics.
