Airlift between Algiers and Khartoum
ALGIERS - Supporters of the national football team flocked Monday in large numbers to Houari Boumediene International Airport when Air Algeria flights succeeded to Khartoum (Sudan), according to APS.
- Three planes took off in the night from Sunday to Monday for the Sudanese capital that will host the play-off match between Algeria and Egypt to designate the final qualifier for the African zone to the World Cup 2010, scheduled in South Africa. Another flight was scheduled at 2.00 pm, said officials of Air Algeria.
Hundreds of Algerian fans, especially young people gathered early in the morning before the offices of Air Algeria at Algiers airport in search of flight tickets, whose price has been fixed for the occasion to 20.000 DA, whereas usually it is sold at 90,000 DA.
Supporters of the Greens have created a beautiful atmosphere, embellished with songs and dances in praise of the national team, while women threw strident ululations. Several people, including foreigners, have brought out their cameras and mobile phones to photograph and film these scenes of jubilation, showing the confidence of the Algerian to their players and the coaching staff.
"Our national team needs more than ever its supporters in these moments. In Khartoum, the players are not alone and we celebrate with them, even in Khartoum, the qualification for the World cup inchallah", enthuses a young man, who proudly shows his passport and plane ticket, waiting to board.
"I salute the initiative of President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelaziz Bouteflika, for the lowering of the price of airline tickets to 20,000 DA, although to be honest, I wish they are free" added this security guard who came from Relizane province, who has spent the night in Algiers airport. Some fans did not hesitate to call the sponsors to come forward and contribute financially to the purchase of airline tickets in favour of Algerian fans.
"Most fans are unemployed or students who have no means to pay for the trip," said a student from Chlef, who wanted the owners of large private companies to react.
Thirty 30 flights have been scheduled by Air Algeria for transport to Khartoum of some 10,000 supporters of the “Greens,” under the guidance of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelaziz Bouteflika, said on Sunday Air Algeria.
