World cup-2010: Germany "tactically stronger than in 2006 and 2008"
BERLIN - Germany coach Joachim Loew said that the Mannschaft to be present at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa was "tactically stronger" than its predecessors of 2006 and 2008, in an interview with Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung on Monday.
- "We are tactically stronger than in 2006 and in 2008," said Germany coach. At the 2006 World Cup, at home, Germany finished in 3rd place and at Euro 2008 in Switzerland and Austria; she was a finalist against Spain.
"We have not demonstrated this ability in our qualifying matches. But when the games have become critical, as against Russia, we have provided a performance tactically very good. We would not have been capable four years ago", added Löw.
The coach is back on the draw of the groups that includes Germany in Group D, with Australia, Serbia and Ghana. "Those who talk of a lucky draw are misinformed," he said.
Serbia "plays an unbelievably good football, technically well developed and very fast" and Ghanaians, he considers the best team in Africa with Algeria, are "physical with the added great speed and endurance of many of their players."
As for Australia, which will be the first opponent of the Mannschaft, June 13 in Durban, Löw also mistrusts. "Australians are not afraid of anything or of anyone. Players take risks with their attitude inspired by the British, and behave very positive," he detailed.
