Algeria, Best National Team the year 2009
ACCRA - The Chelsea's Ivorian striker Didier Drogba has been named the best African player of the year 2009 by the African Confederation of Football (CAF) during a ceremony Thursday night in Accra.
- Didier Drogba preferred to the surprise of the Cameroonian Samuel Eto'o announced as a favorite, had already received this award in 2006. He succeeds to the winner of the "Golden Ball" in Africa, Togo's Emmanuel Adebayor.
During the same ceremony were also other distinguished award winners for 2009. Dominic Adiyiah, world champion under 20 with Ghana, he was named best young player and Sellas Tetteh who led the selection of Ghana to the World cup, best coach.
Algeria qualified for the World Cup in 2010, received the prize for best national team, the All-Powerful RC Mazembe of Congo, who won the Champions League in 2009 best club in Africa. Playmaker Treasor Mputu was named best African player operating exclusively on the continent.
The Sudanese club Al Hilal was awarded the trophy for fair play.
Three former African footballers, Senegal's Jules Francois Bocandé, Nigerian Stephen Keshi and Angolan Jesus Oliviera were also honored for their involvement in the development of continental football.
