Tour of Morocco (March 26-April 4): 132 riders from 15 countries
RABAT - The 23rd edition of the Tour of Morocco counting for the Africa Tour, will take place from March 26 to April 4, with the participation of 132 riders from 15 countries, said on Sunday the organizers.
- The team of Morocco, led by Mustapha Nejjari, will attempt to repeat the feat of his leader Mouhcine Lahsan, winner of the 1st Tour du Mali, which ended last March 13 in Bamako.
Moroccan cyclists are "well prepared" for the Tour of Morocco after participation in several cycling tours in Africa including Mali and Burkina Faso, told the press Mr. Nejjari, national technical director.
"The goal of my team is to score more points in the standings of the Africa Tour, qualifying for the London Olympics in 2012," he said.
France, the United States, Japan, Germany, Italy, Spain, Russia, Turkey, South Africa, Egypt, Tunisia, Serbia, Azerbaijan, Libya and Algeria, have announced their participation in the race.
The program of the 23rd edition of the Tour of Morocco, whose arrival will take place in Casablanca, comprises 10 phases over a total distance of 1473 kilometers, an average of 147 km per step.
