Fifa: Election Wednesday of two African members of the Executive Committee
The head of the organizing committee of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, Danny Jordaan, is among the nominees for the election of two African members of the executive committee of the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) on Wednesday in Sudan.
- Nigeria's Ibrahim Galadima, Ivorian Jacques Anouma, Algerian Mohamed Raouraoua and Seychellois Suketu Patel are the other candidates to join the committee, after the withdrawal of Zambian Kalusha Bwalya, famous for his hat-trick against Italy at Olympics 1988.
- Mr. Anouma is a candidate to succeed himself for a term of four years, while the second outgoing Nigerian Amos Adamu, who was accused of violating the code of ethics of the organization in the voting for the award of the World-2018 and 2022, was suspended from all football-related activities for three years.
- Sounded as a favorite, after the successful staging of the World Cup in South Africa, Danny Jordaan said that nothing was done.
- "The elections are a strange thing," he said during a television interview. It is not about Danny Jordaan but South Africa. The country has become a major player at international level since the World Cup".
- In addition, six positions on the executive committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) are at stake on Wednesday.
- Tunisian Tarek Bouchamaoui, Guinean and Congolese Almamy Camara and Constant Omari are already certain to be elected, without a rival in their region, three remaining vacancies.
