Zamalek-Cub African Incidents: Egyptian Prime Minister's Apology

CAIRO - Egyptian Prime Minister has apologized to Tunisia after supporters of Egyptian club Zamalek have invaded the field and attacked the players of Club Africain and the referee of this match for 2nd round of C1 African media reported Sunday.

  •    "The Prime Minister Essam Sharaf presented on behalf of his government apology to the government and people of Tunisia, Club Africain players and to the Algerian referee for the incident Cairo Stadium," said the daily Al-Ahram.
  •    Groups of Zamalek fans invaded the pitch at three minutes of normal time, attacked the referee, players, the Tunisian club and dismantled the goal posts. These scenes of violence were broadcast live on television.
  •    At this moment of the match, Zamalek, who led 2-1 after losing the first leg 4-2, was virtually eliminated from the Champions League.
  •    The Prime Minister also ordered the Minister of Interior to open an investigation.
  •    A group of Egyptians, bringing together 21,000 people Sunday morning, has built a social networking internet to apologize to the Tunisians.
